SteelOps Privacy Policy

Introduction

SteelSight Systems ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application SteelOps ("the App").

Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

  • Email address
  • Password (encrypted)
  • Operator name

Usage Data

When you use the App, we collect:

  • Lift log entries (load weights, crane configurations, job details)
  • Saved crane presets and equipment specifications
  • Photos you add to lift logs
  • App preferences and settings

Location Data

With your permission, we collect location data to:

  • Provide accurate weather information for your job site
  • Associate location with lift log entries (optional)

You can disable location access in your device settings at any time.

Device Information

We automatically collect:

  • Device type and operating system
  • Device motion data (used only for AR measurement features)
  • App crash reports and performance data

Camera and Photos

With your permission, we access:

  • Camera for AR measurement tools and scanning lift drawings
  • Photo library to attach images to lift logs

Camera data is processed on-device for AR features and is not transmitted to our servers unless you use the drawing scanner feature, which sends images to third-party AI services for text recognition (see Third-Party Services below).

How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide and maintain the SteelOps app
  • Sync your data across devices
  • Display weather information for job sites
  • Enable AR-based measurement features
  • Improve app performance and fix bugs
  • Respond to support requests
  • Send important service notifications

We do not:

  • Sell your personal information
  • Use your data for advertising
  • Share your lift logs with third parties without your consent

Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored using industry-standard security measures:

  • Authentication: Powered by Supabase with encrypted credentials
  • Data Sync: Encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest
  • Local Storage: Data is stored locally on your device using SQLite and secure storage
  • Offline Support: The app works offline; data syncs when connectivity is restored

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy:

  • Supabase — Authentication and data sync
  • Open-Meteo — Weather data (GEM/HRDPS model)
  • RainViewer — Weather radar imagery
  • Google Cloud Vision — Drawing/document text recognition (OCR)
  • Google Gemini — AI-assisted lift planning (Pro feature)
  • OpenAI — AI-assisted lift planning (Pro feature)
  • RevenueCat — Subscription management
  • Expo / EAS — App distribution

AI Processing Disclosure: When you use AI-assisted features (drawing scanner, lift planning), the content you submit (images, text descriptions) is sent to the respective AI service for processing. These services may temporarily retain your data per their own privacy policies. AI features are optional and clearly labeled in the app.

Data Sharing

We may share your information only in these circumstances:

  • With your consent: When you explicitly choose to share lift logs with other users
  • Service providers: Third-party services listed above, under strict data protection agreements
  • Legal requirements: If required by law or to protect our rights

Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access: Request a copy of your data
  • Correct: Update inaccurate information via the app
  • Delete: Delete your account and associated data
  • Export: Export your lift log data
  • Withdraw consent: Disable permissions (location, camera, photos) at any time

Canadian Privacy Rights (PIPEDA)

If you are located in Canada, you have additional rights under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), including:

  • The right to know why your personal information is being collected
  • The right to expect your personal information to be used only for the purposes for which it was collected
  • The right to file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada

Data Retention

  • Active accounts: Data is retained while your account is active
  • Deleted items: Soft-deleted items are permanently removed after 30 days
  • Account deletion: Upon account deletion, your data is removed within 30 days

Children's Privacy

SteelOps is not intended for users under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

International Data Transfers

Your data may be processed in Canada, the United States, and other countries where our service providers operate. For data transferred outside of Canada, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place in compliance with PIPEDA and applicable provincial privacy legislation. We take reasonable steps to ensure your data is treated securely and in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. We will notify you of significant changes via the app or email. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
